Nasalis
Fibers from nasalis may pass upward on the nasal bones and enter into the formation of procerus.
Frequently, the pars alaris and pars transversa are recognized as distinct muscles, depressor alae nasi (myrtiformis [Casserio]), dilatator pinnae [Santorini] and compressor narium [H. Meyer], respectively.
Thin muscular slips on the outer margin of the nostrils are sometimes described as distinct muscles, dilatores naris anterior and posterior (Theile) or levatores alae nasi posterior and anterior (Arnold).
Frequently, under the pars alaris a minute muscle may be found, apicus nasi (Luschka) and the compressor narium minor (Arnold). It consists of a few bundles of muscle fibers, which arises from the lateral crus of the cartilage of the aperture and passes horizontally forward to end in the anterior part of the nasal margin, on the cartilage at the junction of the two crura and its apical part.
The musculus anomalous (Albinus) is a longitudinal muscular slip attached to the maxilla by both extremities of the muscle. It arises under the cover of the common elevator of the lip and nose, from the nasal process of the maxilla under the muscle, and terminates below in in a variety of ways, either by a single slip or a number of slips. The most common termination is by a slip attached to the maxilla just medial to the canine fossa, and it runs in the line of the naso-labial furrow.
